NGO promotes democratic governance

Koforidua, Feb 28, GNA- The Government Accountability Improves Trust (GAIT), a non-governmental organization (NGO), has supported 63 civil society organizations in the West Akim District of the Eastern Region to promote democratic culture.

It has helped civil society organizations to hold regular interactions with the district assembly and utility service providers to ensure provision of good service, transparency and accountability. Mr Attah Boamah, the West Akim District Technical Assistant of GAIT, said this at an interaction with media personnel at Koforidua at the weekend.

GAIT aims at promoting the participation of civil society in governance at the district level.

He said through forums GAIT encouraged civil society to influence policies of the district assembly and make inputs into the development projects of the assemblies.

Mr Boamah said GAIT, which is funded by the USAID and started the project in 2002 in 10 districts, had extended it to 24 districts.
