Nsakyi community gets new clinic

Nsakyi(E/R), Feb. 28, GNA- The Reverend Ankama Acheampong of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has dedicated a 21,000- dollar clinic for Nsakyi community in the Akuapem South District. The clinic was sponsored by three churches in the USA, under a Sister City Programme between the District and Lansing State. Speaking at the function, Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyirah said research had revealed that the causes of maternal and infant mortality are due to the lack of access to health facility and inadequate care of children and pregnant women.

To help reverse the trend, the Ghana Health Service(GHS) is registering all pregnant women and children and ensure that the children are given all prescribed vaccinations, while the expectant women attend ante-natal clinics. Dr Appiah-Denkyirah said government had also instituted a programme, which enable pregnant women and children to receive free medical care at the public hospitals.

The chairperson of the Lansing Regional Sister Cities Commission, Ms Barbara Jean Roberts Mason, said the Commission had initiated oil palm and orange plantations to provide employment and economic security to the people and generate funds for development projects. She said the Greater Southern Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit had provided 1,800 US dollars to support the sinking of a well for the clinic. The Aburihene (Chief of Aburi), Otuboa Djan Kwasi who chaired the function pledged to provide nurses quarters for the clinic.
