Ho Municipal Assembly releases fares

Ho, Feb. 27, GNA – The Ho Municipal Assembly has released taxi fares for distances within the Ho township and from Ho to some of the surrounding towns and villages.

The fare for shorter distances within town is 1,600 cedis for each commuter while the longer distances attract 2,000 cedis. Fares between Ho and surrounding communities range from 2,600 cedis to 2,800 cedis. The old taxi fare for short distances within Ho was 1,500 cedis, while the longer distances attracted 2,000. There are no organised trotro services within the Ho township.

According to the Assembly release, the distance from Ho Central Market to Polytechnic, SSNIT Flats, Estates, Kabore School Area, Poly Clinic, Medical Village, VORADEP Village and Afifekofe will attract 2,000 cedis. The fare from the Ho Central Market to the District Hospital, Regional Hospital, Stadium, Police Depot, Police Headquarters, Commercial Bank and PWD is 1,600 cedis. Ho to Ziavi, Klefe and Sokode by Taxi is now 2,600 cedis while Ho to Taviefe is 2,800.

The Ghana News Agency has observed that taxi drivers are charging 1,500 cedis for the shorter distances instead of 1,600 on account of change of smaller units, which is often not available. Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at a meeting with Volta Regional Executives of Private Road Transport organisations last Monday appealed for compliance with the stipulated fares which, he said, had been arrived at after consultation with drivers’ representatives. . He also solicited the assistance of the media in monitoring the situation. Mr Goh asked Drivers and Station Attendants to be considerate when charging luggage since there were no scales at the stations to weigh such luggage.
