Ho District trains 487 polio volunteers

Ho, Feb. 24, GNA- The Ho District Office of the Ghana Health Service, has trained a total of 487 volunteers to assist in the first phase of this year’s National Polio Immunisation exercise, which takes place on February 25.

The three-day training workshop exposed the volunteers to the proper handling of kit bags, self comportment, approach to clients and application of vaccines.

Mr Evans Attivor, District Disease Control Officer said this year’s exercise was very important because of the reported cases of poliomyelitis in neighbouring countries and the increase in cases in Ghana in 2003.

He cautioned the volunteers to be very observant in other not to immunise one person more than once, explaining that although an additional dosage for an infant may not be harmful it is wasteful. He called on the people to cooperate with the volunteers to help kick polio out of the country.
