Student in court for assaulting policeman

Cape Coast, Feb. 23, GNA – Isaac Hayford, an 18-year-old student of the Cape Coast Technical Institute was on Wednesday granted 20 million cedis bail with two sureties to be justified by circuit court at Cape Coast, for allegedly assaulting a policeman.

He pleaded not guilty and will reappear on Wednesday March 9. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court presided over by, Mr Beresford Acquah, that last Friday the policeman, general constable Richard Yeboah and other policemen were on duty at the Adisadel College Park, where an athletics competition, among schools in the municipality was taking place.

He alleged that the policemen, heard shouting, accompanied by stone throwing from among the students and they moved in to stop them, but Hayford suddenly assaulted constable Yeboah, injuring him in the process.

Inspector Amonoo said Hayford was immediately arrested and was charged with the offence after investigations. 23 Feb. 05
