Workers in informal sector unhappy with SSNIT

Koforidua, Feb. 23, GNA – Workers in the informal sector have accused the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for not speeding up the process to incorporate them into the scheme. A survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua indicated widespread frustrations among the workers following a public awareness forum organised by SSNIT on the programme.

Some of the workers told the GNA that they could not understand why for two years now the programme has not started after they were asked to fill registration forms.

One Mr Yaw Yeboah, said SSNIT “only take delight in repeatedly going round the country to market the scheme without doing anything to bring it into fruition, even in phases”.

An artisan also told the GNA that SSNIT officials were “only playing delay tactics with the scheme”.

A SSNIT official however denied any wrong doing saying, “it will not be long when the scheme will take off”.
