Tamale, Feb. 22, GNA – The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), has served notice to shop owners and other traders to remove all unauthorized structures on road pavements and other unapproved sites. Alhaji Iddrisu Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Tamale on Monday.
He noted that in October last year, shop owners failed to comply with a similar directive, “but this time around, the Assembly will carry out the directive to the letter”.
The TMA boss disclosed that the Assembly collected less than one million cedis as “land poll” last year because people were unwilling to pay.
Alhaji Adam said the TMA would need about 78 million cedis every month to clear refuse in the Metropolis adding: “What the Assembly generates falls far below the required amount needed to rid Tamale of filth”.
He said the Assembly was carrying out tree-planting exercise on some ceremonial routes and around selected sites, while efforts are underway to improve on the drainage system.
