Freetown-Ghanaian Rap Group Thrills Sierra Leoneans

The popular Ghanaian rap group, VIP, proved worthy music ambassadors for Ghana last Saturday when they thrilled a packed stadium at Freetown with its melodious tunes and skillful dancing.

The award-winning group which featured at last year’s KORA award ceremony in South Africa were in Freetown to perform at a thank-you concert in honour of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone(UNAMSIL).

The group had earlier performed in Monrovia alongside musicians from Liberia, Guinea,La Cote D’Ivoire and Sierra Leone in a similar concert to thank the United Nations for its peacekeeping role in Liberia. Also present at the concert was the famous Nigerian Actress Mama G who served as the co-master of ceremony for the concert.

The concert was the brainchild of Jimmy B, the godfather of rap music in Sierra Leone and was sponsored by a new mobile company Commium.

The splendid performance of VIP showed the magnetism of music, proving that good music knows no boundaries. Although they sang mostly in Twi, the packed stadium responded to the heartthrobbing rythmn of the music, particularly the hit song-AHOMKA WO MU,and danced throughout VIP’s performance.

The Ghanaian High Commissioner, Kabral Blay-Amihere joined a group of Ghanaians to render the necessary moral support to VIP and their Manager Isaac Adu(Goodies) at the concert.

At a reception in honour of the group, the High Commissioner commended them for joining the peace concert and putting up a worthy performance.

High Commissioner Blay-Amihere expressed the hope that their experience in Sierra Leone and Liberia would encourage them to use their music to preach peace.
