Court bans driver for drunken driving

Accra, Feb. 21, GNA – A driver who was caught drunk while driving has been banned by a Circuit Court in Accra from using his driver’s licence for 24 months.

Emmanuel Anderson, who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous driving, contravention of traffic regulation and causing road obstruction, pleaded guilty.

The Court also sentenced Anderson to a fine of two million cedis or in default go to jail for six months.

The case for the Prosecution was that at about 0200 hours on February 7, 2005 Policemen on their night patrol saw Anderson driving his car from Odorkor towards Kanshie.

However, instead of Anderson being in his normal lane, he was driving in the opposite side of the main Highway.

When the Police Patrol team arrested him, he smelled of alcohol. Anderson was sent to the Accra West Divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit, Odorkor, where an alcohol test was conducted on him, which he failed.
