PM urges good sanitation to bolster National health Insurance Scheme

Mankessim (C/R), Feb. 20, GNA – The Presiding member of Mfantseman District Assembly, Mr Anthony Adjei-Kusi, has asked Ghanaians to pay serious attention to environmental sanitation as a means of bolstering the National health Insurance Scheme and eradicating preventable diseases.

Mr Adjei-Kusi noted that filth was the major cause of diseases in many communities, saying the health insurance scheme could be sustained “if we all keep our surroundings neat and tidy at all times.” He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mankessim after supervising a four-hour clean-up exercise by the Mfantseman District Council of labour (DCL) at Mankessim.

Mr Adjei-Kusi, who is the chairman of the DCL, deplored the unsanitary condition in the town and appealed to personnel of the environmental health to intensify their inspectorate roles to turn the tide.

Mr Patrick Awuku Owusu, the District Officer of the Meteorological Services Department and Secretary to the DCL, said the exercise would be held every month but cautioned the people not to see that as a chance to relax in keeping their surroundings especially, gutters clean at all times.

The workers, made up of civil and public servants, were joined by some market women to clear choked gutters and sweep selected places.
