Northern Regional REGSEC bans celebration of Fire festival

Tamale, Feb. 20, GNA – The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has put an embargo on the celebration of the Bugum (Fire) festival in the Dagbon Traditional Area for the interest of peace and security.

A statement issued in Tamale on Thursday and signed by Mr. Charles Abass, the Regional C0-ordinating Director said, “In view of the chieftaincy crisis in Dagbon and the complications that the celebration of the festival may cause, REGSEC directs that in the interest of peace and security the Bugum festival should not be celebrated in any part of Dagbon.”

The statement appealed to all parties involved in the celebration of the festival to abide by the order so as not to the breach the peace in the region.
