Koforidua, Feb.20, GNA-From this year, staff of Ghana Health Services(GHS) in the Eastern Region would be required to undergo regular medical check up as a means of ensuring that medical staff in the region take good care of their health.
The Eastern Regional Director of the Health Services, Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyirah announced this at the end of year get-together and awards ceremony of the staff of the Regional Health Administration (RHA) at Koforidua on Friday.
He said all staff of the Service in the region would be required to enjoy their annual leave and would receive their Additional Duty Hour Allowance (ADHA) while on leave.
Dr. Appiah-Denkyirah explained that, because most health workers in the region feared that they would lose their ADHA when they go on leave, they do not want to enjoy their annual leave and that turn to affect their health and productivity in the long run. He regretted that though health workers are concerned about the health needs of their clients, they often fail to take care of their own health needs.
Dr Appiah-Denkyirah called on senior staff of his outfit to be concerned about the welfare of their subordinates and should not always think only of what is expected of their subordinates. He called on those who couldn’t receive prizes, not to be discouraged but should be motivated to strive and work hard so that they could also win awards in future.
Dr Appiah-Denkyirah advised the award winners not to relent on their efforts but to work harder.
Ms Constance Abaya was adjudged the best worker, and she took home a table top fridge and a certificate, Ms Leticia Tetteh took away a fourteen-inch colour Television and a certificate as the second best worker and Mr Peter Ashon, the third best worker took away a gas cooker, a cylinder and a certificate.
A special Regional Director’s award went to Ms. Evelyn Ampofoa, whiles consolation prizes and certificates went to other staff. Retiring staffs were given cheques with various sums of money as their packages.
