National service, a sacred opportunity – Kweku

Accra, Feb. 18, GNA – Ghanaian students have been admonished to consider national service as a sacred opportunity to show gratitude to their motherland and also to help others to discover their potentials. This advice was given by the Deputy Director General of the National Service Scheme, Mr. Dickson Kweku when he interacted with a section of students at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Mr. Kweku expressed grave concern about the attitude of some graduates who refuse posting to the rural areas on the grounds that such places lacked electricity and other basic amenities.

He condemned such attitudes and appealed to would-be service personnel to accept postings to wherever their services would be needed, stressing that “every part of Ghana is Ghana.”

The Deputy Director admitted that conditions at certain places were quite deplorable but he said that alone must not prevent people from rendering the needed services to the country.

He disclosed that plans were underway to motivate the personnel who would be sent to the remote areas to serve. That, according to him was to show appreciation for patriotism and handwork.

Mr. Kweku further disclosed that his outfit was designing a special scheme known as job fair. He said it was a package meant to assist service personnel to find job after their service. He said the programme would soon take off in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi. 18 Feb. 05
