Salesman in court for forgery and stealing

Accra Feb. 16, GNA – A twenty-six year old salesman of the Infinity Tyres Ghana Limited on Wednesday appeared at a Circuit Court charged with forgery and stealing 111.9 million cedis belonging to his employers.

William Quaw, who is said to have used the money to purchase a BMW car pleaded not guilty.

The court, admitted him to a 120 million cedi bail to reappear on March 16.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Peter Benni said in July last year, Quaw collected a quantity of tyres worth 111.976million cedis under the pretext of supplying them to the company’s customers. Quaw however, diverted the tyres, sold them and kept the money. Prosecution said Quaw managed to forge the signatures of customers on delivery notes, which indicated that they had received the tyres. On July 31, last year, the company received balances from the customers and found the differences.

The company reported the matter to the police and Quaw was arrested. In his investigation cautioned statement, Quaw admitted the offence and stated that he used part of the money to purchase a BMW car but promised to refund the money.

Prosecution said Quaw has only refunded four million cedis.
