Private company to manage traffic in SAEMA

Takoradi, Feb 15, GNA – The Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) has engaged a private company to enforce parking regulations and on street parking in the Central Business District (CBD) in Takoradi. Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, the acting Metropolitan Chief Executive, told a meeting with storeowners on Tuesday that the Company would begin work on Monday February 21.

He said vehicles parked at unauthorised places would be towed away by the company and would be given back to the owner after payment of a fee. Mr Nkrumah said the company would initially concentrate its activities on the CBD but would eventually cover the whole metropolis. He advised the storeowners against selling their goods on pavements and creating canopies in front of their stores to ensure free vehicular and human movement.

The storeowners appealed to SAEMA to meet them to find out their views before implementing any policy instead of announcing them on the radio.
