NGO trains 1,200 youth in employable skills

Kumasi, Feb 14, GNA-Youth in Action for Development (YIAD), a Kumasi-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has for the past eight years trained over 1,200 youth in various fields to contribute meaningfully towards the development of the country.

The areas of focus include: entrepreneurial skills, community development, capacity building, reproductive health, information, empowerment and HIV/AIDS sensitisation programmes. Mr Vincent Frimpong Manu, Executive President of YIAD, announced this at the first annual general meeting of the organisation in Kumasi at the weekend.

He said the future development of every nation depended on the youth, hence the need to exposed them to formal education and skills training.

Mr Manu expressed gratitude to the Centre for the Development of People another NGO for supporting the programmes and activities of YIAD.

Mr P.H. Mensah, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, who spoke on the topic: “The Role of the Youth in Consolidating Democracy”, asked the youth to participate fully in the democratisation process of the country.

“As youth you are supposed to know about your rights and responsibilities and contribute positively to the socio-economic efforts of Ghana.” 14 Feb. 05
