Commercial drivers should retire at 60 – Chief

Worakose (Ash), Feb 12, GNA – Commercial drivers should retire at 60, Nana Agyei Kwame II, Chief of Worakose in the Ashanti region, has suggested.

According to the Chief, such a retirement scheme coupled with the proper maintenance of vehicles would reduce motor accidents in the country.

He was speaking at a durbar of the Chiefs and people of Worakose in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district at the weekend to climax the weeklong “Kohwe Kose” festival.

The Chief also suggested the institution of a pension scheme for commercial drivers irrespective of the union they belong to help them to have a secured future when they retire from driving.

He urged the youth to use their energies in productive ventures by patronising training schemes to acquire employable skills. Nana Agyei commended the District Assembly for undertaking development projects in the community and specifically mentioned two boreholes and a toilet facility, which had gone a long way to solve their sanitary problems.

Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, District Chief Executive, said the government had put in place measures to reduce poverty and ensure accelerated development and job creation. He appealed to the people to exercise restrain since under “Positive Change Chapter Two” of the government’s second term the people would witness the desired relief in terms of physical development, wealth creation and economic progress.
