Bolga JSS Student Wins Unilever Science Award

Bolgatanga, Feb. 10, GNA – Miss Atore Queen of Akantome Junior Secondary School in Bolgatanga has received the best Upper East Regional Unilever Junior Scientists Award for the female category.

Miss Queen who placed seventh in the nationwide competition was given a cash prize of 250,000 cedis and assorted Unilever products and a certificate.

Presenting the award, Mr Anthony Aziaba, Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education called on girls to show more enthusiasm in the study of Mathematics and Science. Mr Aziaba said the Science, Technology and Mathematics Education clinics being organised by the Ghana Education Service were meant to whip up interests in the study of science.

He said Miss Atore’s project, which comprised the extraction of oil from jatropha caucas seeds would enhance the cosmetics and petroleum industries. Mr Clement Dinko, Chairman of the function, expressed concern about the deplorable state of the Akantome Junior Secondary School, despite the academic excellence of the school especially in the pursuit of science and called on the municipal assembly to commit funds for renovation.
