AngloGold Ashanti builds school for Adubirem

Adubirem (Ashanti) Feb. 9, GNA – A 400 million cedis Junior Secondary School block funded by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi was on Tuesday presented to the Adubirem community in the newly created Amansie Central District of Ashanti.

The school would also serve JSS students from Hermang, Krodua, Donkoase and Omase/Pampaso.

Mr. Nigel Trevarthen, Managing Director of AngloGold-Ashanti (Obuasi) said it formed part of the Company’s corporate principle to have a positive impact on people in the communities that they operated. “One of the areas in which we make practical and meaningful contributions to is education, because human resource development is a key to every nation’s development.

It is for this reason that we sank over 400 million cedis into constructing these beautiful structures comprising three classrooms, two offices, a store, an ablution block and a workshop”.

He said the company spent 5 million cedis to provide a hand-dug well fitted with a pump and eighty treated electricity poles to Hemang and Krodua communities as well as the rehabilitation of the existing water system Mr. Sarfo Agyapong Kantanka, District Co-ordinating Director, gave the assurance that the District Assembly would assist in the provision of furniture for the school.

He appealed to the Amansie East Directorate of Education to post committed teachers to the school since the Amansie Central District had just been created.

The Co-ordinating Director commended AngloGold Ashanti for supporting the Assembly to promote education in the area. Nana Gyimah, Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development, said efforts would be made to make the school a model one.

The Bekwaihene, Nana Karikari Appau II, expressed appreciation to Anglo Gold Ashanti for fulfilling all its corporate social responsibilities to the communities.

“Now there is trust between us”, he said and called for deepened relations between the Bekwai Traditional Council and Anglo Gold Ashanti
