Birth rate out-number deaths in Fanteakwa

Begoro, Jan 31, GNA – The Fanteakwa District Hospital at Begoro recorded more births than deaths during its first year in operation. Mr Kwame Ampadu-Agyei, the District Health Service Administrator, told Ghana News Agency that 300 births were recorded in the year while 19 children were recorded dead.

He said out of the 19 child deaths, seven were less than five years who died of anaemia infections, while a total of 431 children were on admission at the hospital.

On problems facing the staff, he said lack of residential accommodation discouraged nurses from accepting postings to the hospital.

Mr Ampadu-Agyei said out of 25 nurses at the hospital only three have been provided accommodation at the hospital’s premises and appealed to the government to put-up low cost houses for nurses in the town.
