Zonal Council urged to put assembly on track

Tema, Jan. 27, GNA – The Tema Zonal Council was on Wednesday inaugurated with a call on members to work hard to put the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) on track to realise its revenue target for accelerated development.

The assembly is expected to raise 66.643 billion cedis this year, as against 56 billion targeted in 2004.

Inaugurating the 20-member council, Mr George Scott, Tema Municipal Coordinating Director of the TMA said, the Zonal Council is an important organ of the assembly, and since they live within the communities, it was their duty to ensure that the electorate respond favourably towards their social and civic responsibilities to the assembly. This requires regular meeting with the electorate to educate them on the work of the assembly and the need to honour their duties by paying their rates promptly to enable the assembly to undertake development projects.

To work effectively and efficiently, Mr Scott entreated the members to perform their functions according to the Legislative Instrument and liaise with the assembly for directions.

The Coordinating Director however, reminded them of the sacrificial nature of the work and not to let the meagre allowances discourage them from discharging their onerous task.

Mr Alex Owusu Asare, chairman of the council promised that they would work hard to the best of their abilities to realise their aim, but appealed to the TMA to get them a permanent office.
