MPs appeal to people of Gonno and Tongo to exercise restraint

Accra, Jan. 25, GNA – Two Members of Parliament on Tuesday appealed to the people of Gonno and Tongo-Beo in the Telensi/Nabdam District to exercise restraint in the wake of the disagreement between them.

A statement jointly signed by the MP for Talensi Mr John Tia and Mr David Apasera, MP for Bolgatanga expressed concern about the situation and said nothing should be done to disturb the peace and tranquillity that existed among the people of the Bonaboto Area.

The two MPs called on chiefs and opinion leaders from the area to urgently come together and to help to find an amicable solution to the disagreement.

The statement urged the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Rockson Bukari and the Acting Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mahami Salifu, who are also responsible for the Talensi/Nabdam District Assembly to take swift measures to resolve the dispute.

It commended the security agencies for the swift manner in which they moved in to prevent what could otherwise have been a calamity and urged them to do all they could to restore peace to the area. The two MPs said they stood for the peace and development of their people and pledged their commitment to ensure that peace returned to the area.
