Court remands truck pusher for defilement

Kumasi, Jan. 21, GNA – A Kumasi circuit court on Thursday remanded a 20-year-old truck pusher for defilement.

Kwabena Atanga pleaded not guilty to the charge and vehemently denied his involvement in the crime and will re-appear on January 27. Atanga’s two accomplices are on the run.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Agnes Dinkyini told the court that the accused, who lived in a kiosk at Old Tafo in Kumasi in the company of the two accomplices on December 28, last year, visited the victim, a house-help and her younger sister.

She said the accused and his colleagues asked the victim and her sister to accompany them to Sawaba to visit their sister.

Chief Inspector Dinkyini said on the way, the accused asked the victim’s younger sister to excuse them to talk to her elder sister. She said Atanga asked the girls to follow them to his house for him to change his clothes and when they got to the kiosk in which he lived, his two accomplices took the victim into the kiosk while the accused managed to lure the younger one away.

Chief Inspector Dinkyini said the two then forcibly undressed the victim and one of them had sex with her whilst the other waited for his turn.

She said the victim screamed for help as the second person got ready to take his turn and when her sister attempted to go to her rescue, Atanga brutally assaulted her.

The prosecutor said the culprits heard voices coming towards the kiosk and so they fled and the matter was reported to the police who succeeded in arresting the accused.
