GNFS launches house-to-house fire campaign in Tema

Tema, Jan. 18, GNA – The Tema Municipal office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), is embarking on house- to- house anti-fire campaign to help minimise the rising incident of fire disasters in the Harbour City.

Mr Paul Tamakloe, Municipal Fire Officer, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday that most of the disasters were due to carelessness and overloading of electrical gadgets. In 2004, 194 fire outbreaks occurred in the Municipality as against 177 in 2003.

He expressed concern about attempts by some people to frustrate personnel of the GNFS when they are at disaster scenes. “This unproductive attitude was displayed last Saturday when fire swept through houses at Ashaiman where some sympathisers frustrated the firemen in the discharge of the duties.”

Mr Tamakloe also asked people who raised false fire alarms to desist from the practice, explaining that it was costly to the state.
