Sunyani Jan 18, GNA – The Techiman Municipal office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) received 520 cases last year, showing a 4.4 per cent increase on the previous year’s.
An annual report signed by Mr. Kwasi Asante-Boateng, Municipal Director of the Commission said the cases included tenancy matters, abuse of rights, child custody and refusal to accept pregnancy. Others were communal labour, intestate succession law, child maintenance, unfair treatment, destruction, labour and marriage issues, property and salary arrears.
The report said 230 of the cases were successfully mediated, nine withdrawn, six dismissed for lack of jurisdiction, whilst 275 were pending.
It noted that lack of means of transport and the late arrival of imprest were major constraints facing the Commission in the Municipality, but said in spite of the challenges the office was doing its best.
The report expressed gratitude to the media, other sister Commissions, the police and the law courts in the municipality “for their support and co-operation.
“But for such assistance, most people would have flouted our decisions and we only pray that they (the bodies) will continue to offer us such assistance.” the report added.
