Driver before court for attempted murder of child

Sekondi Jan 18, GNA – John Eshun, a 24-year-old driver on Monday appeared before a Sekondi District Magistrate Court for allegedly attempting to murder his own child.

The accused, whose plea was not taken, was remanded in prison custody to re-appear on January 24 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere said the accused and his wife Esther Ayiew, a seamstress, lived at Ngyerisia near Sekondi. He said the couple a child, Fredrick Impraim but the accused had for sometime stopped caring for the boy.

Sergeant Okyere said on January 10 this year Impraim fell sick and was rushed to hospital where he was given some drugs and discharged. He said at about 1.00 p.m. on January 15, the accused went to the room of his wife and sprinkled some poisonous substance on the drugs. Sergeant Okyere said a witness in the case who saw the accused informed Esther when she returned home.

He said later when the wife confronted the accused, he confessed and was handed over to the Police, adding that, after investigations, he was charged with the offence. 18 Jan 05
