Mormons give books to schools

Kumasi, Jan 18, GNA-The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) on Tuesday donated quantities of assorted books worth millions of cedis to some basic schools in the Ashanti Region. The Church also donated 150 boxes of assorted books and a computer to the Otumfuo Education Fund as well as medical equipment to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hospital.

The beneficiary schools were the Konongo Methodist primary and JSS, Dichemso M/A JSS “A” and primary “B”, Abroma M/A JSS and primary, Oforikrom M/A JSS “A” and primary, Anwomaso M/A JSS and the Onwe M/A primary and JSS.

Others were the Besease D/A kindergarten, primary and JSS, Oforikrom JSS “B”, New Tafo M/A JSS, Santasi M/A JSS and the Atonsu M/A primary and JSS.

Presenting the books in Kumasi, Reverend Rexford Obiri Ferguson, Stake President of Kumasi, said it was the vision of the Church to provide support that would help improve education in the country.

He said education played a vital role in the socio-economic development of the nation and appealed to the beneficiary institutions to make good use of the books to benefit the pupils.

Mr Isaac Okyere, Headmaster of the Besease D/A JSS on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the church for the gesture and pledged to put them to good use.
