Lower Denkyira Assembly elects new Presiding Member

Twifo-Praso (C/R), Jan 12, GNA – The Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District Assembly has elected Mr Emmanuel Agyemang, a retired police officer, as its new presiding member.

He is to replace Rev Ben Donkor who won the parliamentary seat for Hemang-Lower-Denkyira constituency.

The assembly had three rounds of voting before Mr Agyemang who contested with two others, Rev Ababio Danquah and Mr Nicholas Ofori Amo, could secure two-thirds majority of the assembly. In the first round, Mr Agyemang bagged 32 votes while Rev. Danquah had 25 leaving Mr Amo with only one vote.

In the second round Mr Amo stepped down and after voting Mr Agyemang had 36 votes and failed to secure the two-thirds majority to win the race. Rev. Danquah had 22 votes.

Mr Agyemang polled 40 votes in the third round against Rev. Ababio’s 18 votes.

He expressed gratitude to the assembly for the honour done him and urged them to cooperate with him.

He commended the District Chief Executive, Mr Abraham Odoom for his hard work, which he said, had enhanced the performance of the assembly.

For his part, Mr Odoom commended the assembly members for their support that enabled him to carry out his duties efficiently.
