Mass Transportation System Is Disrupting Our Work

Local representatives of the GPRTU in Winneba and officials of the Awutu Effutu Senya district assembly are meeting today to resolve an impasse over the introduction of the Metro mass transport system in the district.

The local GPRTU are protesting the introduction of the mass transport in the district after the Central regional coordinating council and the district assembly negotiated the introduction of the buses.

They have denied the mass transport drivers access to their lorry terminals because of concerns that they could be out of business.

The meeting is expected to find an amicable settlement to the stand off.

The presiding member for the assembly Kwesi Esseku told Joy News that resolution of the matter is critical to relieve commuters between Accra and Winneba of the long hours of queuing.

According to him the GPRTU are making allegations that the Metro Mass Transportation system is disrupting their work because it is picking their passengers.

He explained that the Mass Transit system was introduced to relieve the public of long hours of queues at lorry parks, stressing that there are more than 10,000 students at the University of Education in Winneba who until now patronise the system, go through a lot of difficulties.

He also said most commercial people in Winneba who do their shopping in Accra depend on the mass transport system.
