Pay more attention to children- Bishop Abadamloora

Walewale (N/R), Dec. 30, GNA- The Most Reverend Lucas Abadamloora, Catholic Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, last Tuesday called on Ghanaians to pay more attention to children, especially the sick, orphans and street children.

“The Church thinks children deserve recognition because they represent all the innocent suffering in society, the effects of poverty, neglect and misery,” he said.

Bishop Abadamloora who is also the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC), made the call when he celebrated Mass at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church at Walewale in the West Mamprusi District. The occasion marked the 200th Anniversary of the Sisters of Charity of St. Anne, a charitable congregation of Catholic Nuns.

He said the nuns who run a clinic in the West Mamprusi District capital, were dedicated to the welfare of society by serving the health needs of the people.

The Bishop commended the nuns for their hard work and urged them to meet young women in schools and colleges and encourage them to join their “noble” vocation.

In her welcoming address, Sister Juana Garvido, Mother of the Community, said over the past 200 years the responsibility of the Nuns had been to give charity to the poor and the needy.”

She said the celebration was also in honour of their fidelity, commitment to their vocation.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Anne was founded in Spain by a priest, Father Juan Boual, and a Nun, Mother Maria Rafols, with 12 other Nuns, to spread love through charity.
