Government focus on youth development – Minister

Sunyani Dec 29, GNA – Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said in Sunyani on Tuesday that the government would focus on the development of the youth during its second term in office.

He said the government would adopt programmes to empower the youth, individuals and communities.

Mr. Adjei-Darko, who is the MP for Sunyani West was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at a Christmas party he organised for a cross-section of residents in his constituency.

He said more support would be given to needy but brilliant students as well as skill training for the youth to become self-employed. The Minister explained that this was in line with the government’s programme aimed at strengthening infrastructure and human capacity development.

It would also create opportunities for wealth creation for poverty reduction in the communities.

Mr Adjei-Darko said three Indian experts were in the country for the establishment of a plant at Kwatire, in the constituency for the extraction of oil from sunflower, cottonseed, Soya bean, palm nuts, copra and groundnuts and urged the people to go into the cultivation of the crops.

The MP who is assisting 45 students at various levels of education appealed to the people to unite to accelerate the development of the area.

“Now that the elections are over, let us all join hands as Ghanaians to build a better Ghana, where we shall see ourselves as brothers and sisters and live in peace”, he said, adding, “It is only through hard work that the country can develop”. Present at the party were Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Yaw Adjei Duffour, Deputy Regional Minister, the clergy and traditional rulers.
