Spiritual fortification not anti-dote against HIV/AIDS – DCE

Mampong (Ash), Dec 28, GNA – Spiritual fortification is not an anti-dote to HIV/AIDS, Mr Thomas Edward Attakorah, Sekyere West District Chief Executive (DCE), has said.

He said the best solution was for individuals to strive to lead morally upright lives and to practice safe sex if necessary. The DCE was addressing the closing of the four-day Annual Camp Meeting of the Asante Mampong District of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church, at Krobo near Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region. Under the theme, “United in the Warmth of his Fellowship,” it was attended by over 2,000 members of the Church from different parts of the District.

Mr Attakorah called for concerted effort in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, which he said was no more a social issue, but had economic and development dimensions as well.

The DCE urged the participants to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to have access to quality health-care. He commended the SDA Church for its role in national development especially its efforts to redirect the youth towards national reconstruction.

Mr Kofi Agyenim Boateng, Pastor of the Krobo SDA Church, drew their attention to the consequences of political unrest in some African countries and urged them to direct their activities towards national peace and stability.

Pastor O K Kumah of the Agona SDA Secondary School, called on Ghanaians to think more of what they could do for the nation and not what the country could do for them.
