Fire extinguishers are white elephants in Fanteakwa

Begoro, Dec. 27, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service of the Fanteakwa District would, as from next year, take census of fire extinguishers and fire detectors in restaurants, canteens and workplaces in the district.

The District Fire Officer, Mr Dwemoh Agyapong told the Ghana News Agency at Begoro on Monday that, it had come to his notice that most workplaces and restaurants had no fire extinguishers, while others have disused ones, which had become “white elephants”. Mr Agyapong said most owners of fire extinguishers were only happy to have such gadgets in their premises but were unable to operate them in case of fire outbreak.

He said his outfit would re-service all malfunctioning fire extinguishers and train the owners on their effective operation.
