Ahwerewam JSS scores zero per cent in BECE

Mankranso (Ash), Dec 23, GNA-All the 58 candidates who sat the 2004 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Ahwerewam local Authority Junior Secondary School, in the Ahafo-Ano South District scored zero per cent.

Mr Kwaku Obeng Boateng, District Chief Executive, disclosed this at the Second Ordinary meeting of the District Assembly at Mankranso. He attributed the problem to indiscipline among teachers, the apathy of members of the School Management Committee, Parent-Teacher Association and other stakeholders.

Mr Boateng expressed surprised at the abysmal performance since the Assembly had invested about 10 billion cedis in education. He said the money was used to provide sponsorship for teacher trainees, provision of classroom blocks, accommodation for teachers and students scholarship for students.

Mr Boateng said the District Assembly exceeded its projected revenue target of 598 million cedis by 84 per cent having collected 595 million cedis for the year.

Mr Joseph Agyemang Dapaah, the Presiding Member commended people in the District for ensuring incident-free elections and urged them to maintain the peace during the Christmas festivities.
