NPP says elections victory will not lead to complacency

Sekondi, Dec 23, GNA – Mr Peter Mac Manu, the Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said on Thursday that the popular support that the party enjoys as evidenced by the results of the general elections would not lead to complacency or arrogance by the party leadership.

He said the party would continue to serve the country in the best interest of the people because it believes that “power is granted for the service of humanity in humility.”

These were contained in a statement the party issued to express its gratitude to the electorate, the rank and file of the party for working so hard to return the party to power.

The statement signed by Mr Francis Quansah, the Regional Secretary, also paid tribute to the media, particularly the electronic media and the various religious institutions, for their support to enhance multi-party democracy in the country.

“The NPP is still alive to its responsibility to steer the affairs of the country with dedication, honesty, hard-work, humility and selflessness to achieve growth in peace and unity”, it said. The statement said the party leadership would always be guided by the admonishing of Theodore Roosevelt, an American statesman that, “the most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people”.

The statement also advised the rank and file of the party to avoid internal bickering and “renew our strength for the service of our party and the nation.”

It commended the opposition political parties for having fought a “good fight” in the elections, and said their fortitude was a strong factor in fostering multiparty democracy in the country.
