Assembly donates to physically challenged persons

Konongo (Ash), Dec 22, GNA – The Asante-Akim North District Assembly and the Department of Social Welfare jointly donated equipment and food items worth about 20 million cedis to physically challenged persons in the area.

The items included wheel chairs, sewing machines, flour, sugar, hair dryers, cooking oil and shoemaking tolls.

Presenting the donation, Mr George K. Frimpong, Asante-Akim North District Chief Executive, expressed regret that some physically challenged persons engaged in the sale of narcotic drugs and other crimes.

He advised the beneficiaries to use the donation to transform the lives and promised that the assembly would continue to assist them only when they put to good use what they had received. Mr Frimpong appealed to physically challenged persons to join associations that seek their welfare so that they could be easily identified for assistance.

Mr Adu Gyamfi, the District director of Social Welfare, advised the beneficiaries to put the items they had received to good use and asked society not to look down on the physically challenged but assist them to develop their potential fully.
