Amansie East cultural committee inaugurated

Bekwai, (Ash), Dec.16, GNA- Mr Samuel Adjei, Ashanti Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture has appealed to the Amansie East District Cultural Committee to do research into various cultural practices in the area.

This he said would help do away with those that tended to be harmful to society.

Mr Adjei was inaugurating a 10-member Amansie East District Cultural Committee to oversee the implementation of cultural policies at Bekwai on Wednesday.

He said culture helps to establish the identity of the people and stressed the need for them to modernise and sustain it.

Mr Richard Aboagye, Amansie East District Chief Executive, on emphasised the importance of cultural values in the country. He announced that plans were far advanced for the Assembly to construct district cultural centres at Bekwai next year.

Nana Barima Offe Okogyeasuo, Omanhene of the Kokofu Traditional Area, who chaired the function, disclosed that he had initiated a festival known as “Apemso” which would be soon be celebrated to boost tourism in the area.
