Union congratulates President Kufuor

Accra, Dec. 16, GNA – The Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), on Wednesday commended President John Agyekum Kufuor for winning the presidential election. The Union expressed the hope that the next four years would give him the opportunity to unite the nation than ever before as a cardinal issue in nation building.

Alhaji Salifu Bawah, Deputy Secretary of the Union, who made the commendation through the Ghana News Agency in an interview, also commended Ghanaian workers, especially members of the PUWU for conducting themselves creditably during and after the election. He appealed to all sections of the community to co-operate in any unity effort so as to create the congenial atmosphere for governance. Alhaji Bawah expressed concern about pockets of violence being reported in the media from some parts of the country, saying: “A nation divided against itself cannot stand.”

“It does not pay to continue causing injury and killing ourselves. I request the law enforcement agencies to help bring peace to those trouble areas”.
