Police warns public against criminals

Accra, Dec 16, GNA – The police on Thursday warned the public to be cautious about how they go about their activities, following reports of criminals planning to cause panic during the Christmas period and after.

A statement, the police issued and signed by Mr David Eklu, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the police Public Relations Directorate said reports indicated that some criminals were planning to attack travellers on the highways by planting sharp objects in commodities such as onions on the highway to deflate tyres of vehicles.

It said in view of the reports, the Inspector-General of Police, Nana Owusu Nsiah has directed all Regional, Divisional and District Commanders “to be extra vigilant and intensify day and night patrols.”

The statement said the police have also been directed to seek public support in instituting preventing measures. It urged FM Radio Stations to assist the police in the fight against crime.

The statement asked travellers and other members of the public to take such precautionary measures of not exposing huge sums of money when they were making purchases and that they should seek advice from their local banks.

It asked shoppers who arrived in the cities to avoid exposing their monies and other valuables and that they should promptly inform the police about crime situations. 16 Dec. 04
