Cape Coast, Dec. 13, GNA – Fortomah Bawah, 18-year-old welder was on Monday remanded in prison custody by a circuit court in Cape Coast for allegedly murdering his 10-months-old baby, Abdul Rahman.
Bawah pleaded not guilty and would reappear on January 5 2005. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that on December 6, this year, Ramatu, who had a baby with Bawah went to him for money to enable her send the sick baby to hospital.
Inspector Azasoo said, when Ramatu got to the house with the sick baby, Bawah took him from the mother and asked her to go and come later, since he, Bawah was eating.
He said when the woman went back later she did not meet Bawah and waited for sometime but he did not turn up so she left.
Inspector Azasoo said the next day, when Ramatu went for the baby, Bawah told her that he had sent the baby to his mother at Axim in the Western Region, but this did not go down well with Ramatu and she reported the matter to her mother, who asked the accused to bring the child back.
He said on December 8, the body of the baby was found floating on the Fosu Lagoon in Cape Coast and a report was made to the police as well as radio announcement and Ramatu identified the body as her son. He said the body was removed and sent to the regional hospital for autopsy.
