New Edubiase (Ash), Dec.13, GNA-President John Agyekum Kufuor has again renewed his call to Ghanaians to bury their political interests and differences and focus on the best way to develop the country now that the elections were over.
In a speech read on his behalf at the celebration of the annual Afahye festival by the chiefs and people of New Edubiase in the Adansi South district of Ashanti on Friday, he asked Ghanaians to maintain their high sense of unity and peace now that the elections were over as they did before and during the elections since a country without peace could not develop.
President Kufuor asked the people in the area not to do anything that would lead to political unrest in the area.
He expressed his gratitude to all for ensuring a peaceful free and fair elections and said, “with the campaign and elections over, let us join hands and together move the nation forward”.
Mr Dominic Yeboah, the Adansi South District Chief Executive assured the people of New Edubiase that he will work towards the creation of another constituency out of the existing one to speed up the development of the area.
He said the creation of a new constituency had become necessary in view of the fact that the present constituency had over 89 polling stations and over 30,000 registered voters, which, he pointed out, was bigger than some constituencies in the country.
He commended supporters of NPP in the constituency for working hard to close the wide difference between the party and NDC in the 2000 elections.
Mrs Theresa Joyce Baffoe, the out-going Member of Parliament (MP) thanked the people of the constituency for supporting her during her tenure of office as MP for the area and hoped they would lend the same support to the new MP.
Nana Asiam Guahyia Ababio, Edubiasehene asked Christians not to associate traditional festivals with fetish practices and challenged them not to defy restrictions imposed on the people not to go to farm on such days but rather join hands with the traditional rulers to make the celebration of such festivals a success.
He condemned the notion that Christians should not take part in such festivals, saying that such festivals were for peace, unity and prosperity.
