UK Minister for Africa congratulates Ghana

Accra, Dec. 13, GNA – Chris Mullin, the United Kingdom (UK) Minister for Africa, has congratulated Ghanaians for a successful election and President John Agyekum Kufuor on his victory. “I congratulate all those – candidates, voters and the Electoral Commission – who combined to make a success of the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Ghana on 7 December,” he said in a statement released in Accra on Monday.

“The high turnout and overall transparency, fairness and freedom of the electoral process are a tribute to Ghanaian democracy.

“I would also like to congratulate President Kufuor on his victory and look forward to working with him and his Government to further develop the excellent relations that exist between our two countries.” The statement said two UK members of Parliament, Jane Griffiths and Jim Sheridan, observed the elections on behalf of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and associate themselves with this statement.
