EC appeals to create more polling stations in AEE districts

Ajumako (C/R) Dec. 10 GNA – The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam (AEE) District Electoral Officer, Mr. Bawa Adamu on Thursday appealed for the creation of more polling centres in the district to reduce the time voters had to spend at polling stations.

Mr. Adamu, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ajumako said that this would also reduce the distance voters had to travel before getting to their polling station.

He said even though there are 110 polling stations in the district some voters had to travel between seven and nine miles to cast their vote, a situation that discourages the aged from voting.

On the conduct of the election, he said that he observed a number of political intolerance during the peak of the campaign, however, voting was done in a smooth and peaceful atmosphere in the district. He was of the opinion that there was the need for unity of purpose and tolerance from all, saying, “politics should not divide us, we should maintain the prestige and honour that we have chalked as the most peaceful country in Africa”.
