Tweapease farmers build road and cocoa shed

Tweapease (Eastern Region), 9 Feb. ’99 –

Cocoa farmers at Tweapease in the North Birim District have spent 70 million cedis to construct a five- kilometre feeder road to link Tweapease and Abehenase-Akoani in the Kwabibirem District as well as a cocoa shed with an office and a store.

Mr Alex Mensah, a purchasing clerk of the Produce Buying Company, told newsmen that the projects were financed through ‘kilo-kilo’ deductions adding that the shed has already been completed while the adjoining quarters to accommodate the purchasing clerk is at the foundation stage.

Mr Mensah said the farmers were contributing additional funds to support the ‘kilo-kilo’ deductions to help expedite work on the quarters. Nii Lantei Awua the second, chief of the town, who released land for the shed, expressed satisfaction at the efforts of the farmers. Farmers at Shed Two at Agona Nyarkrom in the Agona District are also spending about 35 million cedis to construct a permanent cocoa shed, according to Mr Ben Kwesi Fletcher, purchasing clerk of the Produce Buying Company in the area.
