Ballot boxes found burnt

New Edubiase (Ash), Dec 9, GNA-Two out of the three ballot boxes which were seized by unidentified people when ballot boxes were being conveyed from Nkrankese to New Edubiase for counting have been found. They were found on an oil palm farm on the Atobiase-New Edubiase road with the voter’s registers and ballot papers completely burnt beside the boxes.

The only items, which did not burn were the indelible ink, ink pads and thumbprint pads.

The ballot boxes contained the ballot papers, voters registers and results from the Obonsu junior secondary school “A” polling station for presidential election and the other one from Nkrankese local authority primary school which contained ballot papers, register and results for the parliamentary election.

Security personnel were still combing the area for the remaining ballot box.

Meanwhile, Mr Kwasi Nkrumah, the driver of the Ghana Health Service pick-up, which was conveying the ballot boxes to New Edubiase and arrested by the police, has been granted five million cedis police enquiry bail.

Mr Edmund Wireko, the Returning Officer who was also invited by the police has also been released and told the Ghana News Agency that he will submit a full report of the incident to his Regional Director.
