Ministry urges women to vote in Tuesday’s poll

Accra, Dec. 5, GNA – The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs on Sunday urged all women qualified to vote to come out in their numbers to exercise their franchise on Tuesday.

This is because the future of women, their children and their families is dependent on the consolidation of democracy and good governance.

It noted that 102 women were contesting parliamentary seats, up from 98 in the 2000 Elections.

“Even though, the increase in numbers may not be too big, it is encouraging that the number has increased and not decreased.” The Ministry commended women candidates for their commitment, fortitude and courage to offer themselves as candidates to serve their constituents and the nation.

The Ministry wished all women candidates the best of luck and said it looked forward to an increased and effective female presence in the next Parliament.
