Ghanaians should not deceive themselves with elections

Kumasi, Dec. 5, GNA – Ghanaians have been told not to delude themselves that salvation of the country depended solely on elections and its results.

The Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, who said this, explained that salvation may to some extent depended on good leadership but more importantly good leadership in Christ.

He was delivering a sermon at the end of a four-day third annual crusade and thanksgiving service of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church at the Jackson’s Park in Kumasi on Sunday. Over 10,000 people including ministers of religion and council members attended the crusade with the theme, “Life In Its Fullness”. The Rt. Rev Frimpong-Manso told the members to be seen to be transformed human beings exhibiting the principles of the life of Christ in the church and in their communities.

The Moderator said the whole world is looking up to them as the light and fullness of life in Christ to radiate through them and lead them to heaven.

Sadly enough, he said the church, which ought to show the way and be a guide for the people searching for fullness of life is sometimes found wanting and lacking the spirituality and spiritual direction. To this end, he said several people have ended up more disillusioned, devastated and disappointed from the fullness of life from wrong sources.

The Very Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Principal of the Trinity Theological Seminary, asked Christians to pray so that the devil does not use them to create confusion during and after the election on Tuesday.

He said insulting people, fighting with one another or indulging in violence during elections is not part of the democratic dispensation Ghana is fighting for and it therefore, behoved on Christians to refrain from such acts.

The Very Reverend Professor Asante urged all eligible voters to try to exercise their franchise on the Election Day to help the nation choose its leaders to govern the country for the next four years.
