Apam (C/R), Dec. 2, GNA – The Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II has refuted reports that chiefs of the area had rejected the Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, incumbent Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, who is seeking re-lection in next week’s polls.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Apam, Obrifo Ahor Ankobea said it had come to his notice that some people were “going round confusing the electorate that we have asked the people not to vote for Mrs Benyiwa-Doe because of non- performance.”
The Chief stated that nothing to that effect had been discussed at any of their meetings. “People who want to achieve their personal ambitions by using the name of chiefs should stop it immediately,” he cautioned.
Obrifo Ahor Ankobea cautioned his colleague chiefs to desist from using their positions to influence the electorate to vote for a candidate of their choice.
“As custodians of the land and fathers of the people, it is imperative that we create a level playing field for all candidates and give them equal attention so that people will not point accusing fingers at us for being the cause of their defeat”, he said.
The Chief said people should be aware that Rome was not built in a day, therefore, no political leader could provide the need of all the communities at the same time, adding that, development was an ongoing process.
He appealed to the political parties, officials of the Electoral Commission, the security personnel and the electorate to collectively ensure very peaceful elections next week.
