EC official warns polling agents against use of force

New Tafo (E/R), Dec. 2, GNA – Mr David Adenze Kanga, Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in-charge of Finance and Administration, has called on Polling Agents to refrain from using force to correct any suspected irregularity at the polling station. He said they should follow the laid down procedure and cooperate with the presiding officers to ensure free, fair and transparent elections on December 7.

Mr Kanga made the call when opening a day’s training workshop for presiding officers and polling agents of political parties and candidates in the Abuakwa North Constituency at New Tafo, on Wednesday. The workshop was organised by the EC, the USAID, the Netherlands Embassy and the KAB Governance Consult to train the polling staff and the agents to ensure harmony at the polling stations.

Mr Kanga explained that the joint training was to build the capacity of the agents on election procedures to ensure that the will of the majority of the electorate triumphed in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

He cautioned the electorate and agents against being judgmental about the chances of candidates, adding “if this were so, there will be no need for elections”.

“We use the electoral process to ensure that at the end of it all the will of the majority will prevail,” Mr Kanga said.

On the provision of copies of the voters register to the parties, Mr Kanga told a questioner that the EC had already supplied the parties’ headquarters with the registers on CD Rom for them to reproduce for their respective constituencies because it would be too bulky to supply that of every constituency’s register to each party.
