Yendi, (N/R) Dec 2, GNA – Vice President Aliu Mahama has urged kingmakers of Dagbon to use due traditional processes to resolve the protracted chieftaincy crisis to chart a new way for unity and brotherhood in the family.
He appealed to them to shun intruders who were not part of the system from interfering and fomenting the crisis.
Alhaji Mahama was speaking with the Kuga-Na, Braimah Abdulai, Senior Kingmaker of Dagbon, and some elders during a courtesy call on him at his palace on Wednesday.
The Vice President also paid similar calls on the Zohi-Na, (Chief of Yendi) Mahammud Salifu, the Bolin-Lana, Mahammadu Abdulai and the Zongo-Na, Abukari Labo, all in Yendi and the Mion-Lana Ziblim Abdulai at Mion as part of his campaign tour of some communities in the Northern Region to canvass for votes for the New Patriotic Party NPP. He urged the Kingmakers to deal with realities and avoid injecting personal interests in the issues in their effort to find an amicable solution to the crisis.
The Vice President appealed to the Kingmakers to always investigate what people would come to tell them.
“I am aware some people come to tell you people stories they have not heard or things they have not seen” and urged them to be wary of such people.
The Kuga-Na Abdulai called on the Government to assist him and his elders to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
The Zohi-Na appealed to the youth to stop heightening the issues. At the Bolin-Lana Palace, Alhaji Mahama advised people in the area to stop labelling chiefs as “Andani Chiefs” and “Abudu Chiefs”, saying, “this does not augur well for unity and brotherhood”.
He called on Dagombas to unite and fight poverty, ignorance and disease instead of fighting among themselves.
The Bolin-Lana commended the Vice President for pre-occupying himself with efforts to bring peace to Dagbon and other communities in the country.
The Mion-Lana also commended the Government for initiating development projects such as schools, roads and health facilities in the communities.
Vice President Mahama said the Government would not bring money to the people but would create employment opportunities for the people to create wealth for themselves.
